A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure to surgically raise the brows. Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift smooths and elevates the forehead, brow, and area around the eyes, improving their appearance.

Candidates for a brow lift are men and women who are nonsmokers and in overall good health. You are an ideal candidate for a brow lift if you:

• Have horizontal wrinkles or creases on your forehead and across the bridge of your nose
• Have vertical frown lines (sometimes called “11s”) between your eyebrows
• Have sagging eyebrows that make you seem older, angry, or tired

Coronal Brow Lift

Also called a classic brow lift, a coronal brow lift uses an incision that spans across the top of your forehead from ear to ear. The skin is lifted off the forehead, and any excess fat or tissue is removed. If necessary, your surgeon may realign your forehead muscles or reposition your eyebrows a bit higher. Once everything is where it needs to be, excess skin is trimmed away, and the incision is closed.

Trichophytic Brow Lift

A trichophytic brow lift or hairline lift is often used for patients with higher hairlines and/or longer foreheads.  Rather than raising the hairline, a portion of the forehead skin will be removed to help elevate the eyebrows. The incision is made just behind the hairline therefore it camouflages really well.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive procedure performed using several small incisions hidden in your hair. An endoscope (a small tube equipped with a camera) is placed into one of the incisions for a closer, more magnified view of your forehead muscles and tissue on a screen. Another incision is used to elevate your brow area and an anchoring suture is placed.

Temporal Brow Lift

Also known as a lateral brow lift, a temporal lift is a minimally invasive procedure to address the outer one-third of your brow area. It uses small incisions hidden by your hairline to elevate your brows and smooth away wrinkles, primarily around your eyes. A temporal brow lift is performed like an endoscopic one and can be done using only local anesthesia.

Consultation

You’ll start by coming in for a brow lift consultation with Dr. Patel. During your consultation, he will examine your forehead and brow area, asking you to make different facial expressions to assess the areas that need attention. He will then talk with you about your options for brow rejuvenation, whether that is moving forward with surgery or utilizing nonsurgical options like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, or injectable fillers.

Once he determines that you are a good candidate for a brow lift, he’ll take pictures of your forehead and brow area and talk you through the process. He’ll also let you know what to expect from your recovery and results and answer any questions you may have.

Procedure

Dr. Patel will perform your brow lift using the technique that best meets your needs and offers the results you desire. A patient may combine other facial procedures with their brow lift to achieve a more youthful appearance. An eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) is commonly performed alongside a brow lift, and you can also add a facelift or injectable fillers to complete your transformation.

The overall recovery time after a brow lift will differ according to the technique used during your surgery. No matter what type of brow lift you receive, you will experience some swelling and bruising after the procedure, but this is normal and typically resolves in seven to ten days. Using cold compresses, taking over-the-counter pain medication, and keeping your head elevated will help alleviate discomfort and minimize swelling.

You should be able to return to work and other daily activities in about a week. However, you may be restricted from more strenuous activities for a few more weeks, especially if you underwent a coronal brow lift.

For most patients, bruising from an endoscopic or temporal brow lift is minimal, and less recovery time is needed. Dr. Patel will provide instructions for your recovery specific to the kind of brow lift you received.

You will see some results immediately after your brow lift surgery, but the final results are not fully visible until all of the swelling has dissipated—typically at approximately two to three weeks post-procedure. Temporal and endoscopic brow lift results are usually visible before coronal brow lift results, simply because it takes longer to heal from a coronal brow lift. Minor swelling may persist for up to six months after the procedure.
