What Is High-Definition Body Contouring?
Body contouring is an all-encompassing term for various body sculpting procedures offered at WOW Cosmetic Surgery. These procedures help to define and contour your physique for a healthier, more athletic, and slimmer figure. High-definition body contouring involves greater surgical technique and the use of additional advanced technologies such as VASER®, Renuvion®/J-Plasma®, and/or Thermage® to truly etch and sculpt shapely results while also helping to tighten the skin.
What Are the Benefits of High-Definition Body Contouring?
High-definition body contouring offers a wealth of benefits because it:
- Offers precision body contouring
- Has a low risk of complications
- Involves less swelling, bruising, and discomfort than traditional liposuction
- Tightens loose skin
- Targets the treatment area without damaging surrounding tissue
- Can be used nearly anywhere on your body
- Requires less downtime than traditional lipo
- Leaves minimal scarring
The key to receiving excellent results from high-definition body contouring is to schedule the procedure with a surgeon who is trained, qualified, and experienced in the specific techniques involved.
Am I a Candidate for High-Definition Body Contouring?
Candidates for high-definition body contouring should be nonsmokers in good overall health. Because high-definition liposuction is designed to put the finishing touches on an already fit figure, you should also have good muscle tone and be at a stable, healthy weight. Ideal candidates also:
- Are over 18 years old
- Have a BMI of 30 or less
- Have good skin quality (minimum to no laxity)
- Have realistic expectations for their results
In some cases, traditional liposuction or procedures like a tummy tuck or Mommy Makeover may better fit your needs. When you come in for your consultation, Dr. Patel will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan that will offer the best results for you.
What Technologies Are Used for High-Definition Body Contouring?
VASER is an acronym that stands for “vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance,” which is a long way of saying that it is ultrasound-assisted liposuction. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction, like VASER®, uses the pulsing of ultrasound waves to break apart the fat before suctioning it from your body. The energy waves emitted by VASER® also produce heat, which helps to tighten the skin around the fat removal area.
Because VASER® uses waves of ultrasound energy to loosen the fat from the connective tissue in your body, it is less traumatic on the surrounding tissues than traditional liposuction. This results in less bruising and soreness after the procedure and faster healing. The main advantage of VASER® is that the ultrasound-assisted technology allows for more precise body contouring than traditional liposuction, allowing you to truly sculpt and define nearly any area from your chin to your thighs.
Renuvion® (also known as J-Plasma®) is a body contouring tool used to tighten skin. It is often used after liposuction, but can also be performed independently. In the past, while liposuction could get rid of excess fat, you might be left with loose skin in the area that could only be addressed with surgery. Renuvion® changes all that by using radiofrequency energy and cold plasma to tighten sagging skin without invasive surgery.
Renuvion® works by delivering a targeted stream of helium gas and radiofrequency energy beneath the surface of your skin. The heat from the radiofrequency waves converts the helium into cold plasma. The cold plasma shrinks and tightens your skin and kickstarts the collagen-building process. You’ll see immediate skin-tightening results, which will continue to improve over time as the collagen in the area is replenished.
Thermage® also uses radiofrequency energy to tighten and contour your skin. Thermage® sends radiofrequency energy deep into your skin, heating the treatment area and contracting the skin. Thermage® treatments tighten skin while boosting the body’s natural collagen production. Thermage® is a non-invasive procedure; there are no needles or cutting, thus the treatment does not require any anesthesia at all. There are brief heat sensations you will feel throughout the procedure that can be a bit discomforting; however, the system incorporates vibration and cooling to protect your skin and minimize discomfort.
When Will I See My High-Definition Body Contouring Results?
While you may be able to see some of your body contouring results immediately after your procedure, they will likely be obscured by swelling in the treatment areas. Most of the swelling takes about a month to dissipate, though you’ll still have some residual swelling up to six months after your procedure. After six months, your body will have settled into its new shape, and you’ll be able to enjoy the full results of your high-definition body contouring procedure.
If you underwent Renuvion®/J-Plasma® or Thermage® treatments, you’ll see some immediate skin tightening, which will continue improving. Because skin improvement relies on your body’s natural processes to rebuild collagen, it can take anywhere from six to nine months for your full results to be visible.

Because the procedure requires incisions, you will have some scarring. However, the incisions used in high-definition body contouring are very small and, with proper aftercare, result in minimal scarring that will fade over time.
The length of your recovery after high-definition body contouring depends on several factors, including the areas of the body addressed, number of areas treated, and your individual healing process. Most patients can return to work several days after their procedure and return to most normal activities couple weeks after their procedure. However, everyone is different, so Dr. Patel will give you specific instructions and a timeline for your recovery when you come in for your high-definition body contouring consultation.
