Brachioplasty Surgery in Dallas, TX

*

So many people want the right to bare arms and enjoy strapless or sleeveless dresses. Excess skin and fat under your arms can make it difficult to feel confident in your daily activities—even something as simple as waving to a friend. When you’ve had enough of hiding your “bat wings” or can’t spend another summer sweating in long-sleeved tops to cover them up, it’s time to consider brachioplasty at WOW Cosmetic Surgery.

What Is Brachioplasty?

Brachioplasty (also known as an arm lift) is surgery to remove excess skin and pockets of fat from the upper arms. It is most often performed on people who have lost significant weight or experience sagging skin in their arms due to reduced skin elasticity. An arm lift is designed to tighten your skin and restore definition, improving the contour and tone of your upper arms.

What Are the Benefits of Brachioplasty?

Arm lift surgery offers several benefits, including:

  • Eliminating excess skin and flab in the upper arm
  • Improving the shape and contour of your arm
  • Making exercise more accessible and more comfortable by eliminating redundant skin
  • Eliminating skin rashes and irritation caused by friction
  • Improving the proportionality of your arms to the rest of your body
  • Enhancing the visibility of your weight loss results
  • Improving your confidence in your appearance

Am I a Candidate for Brachioplasty?

Candidates for brachioplasty should be nonsmokers in overall good health. Ideal candidates for an arm lift should be at a healthy, stable weight and have significant laxity (sagging) in the skin of their upper arms.

What Are my Brachioplasty Options?

Arm lift incision options are chosen according to the degree of correction required to achieve the most beneficial results. Incision types include:

Limited Incision

A limited incision, which involves a small incision located near the armpit, may be the best option for patients with loose skin around their armpit.

Standard Incision

The most common type of brachioplasty incision is a standard incision, which addresses the lax skin that hangs under the entire upper arm. The incision is placed on the inside of the arm and extends from the armpit to the elbow.

Extended Incision

For patients who have lost a massive amount of weight, an extended brachioplasty incision may be necessary. This incision is also placed on the inside of your arm, beginning at the elbow and extending up your arm, across the armpit, and down the side of your chest.

How is Brachioplasty Performed?

Brachioplasty is an outpatient surgery performed using general anesthesia or sedation. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Patel will make the incision using the most beneficial technique. He will remove excess skin and fat and perform liposuction if necessary to further enhance your upper arm contour. He will sculpt and reshape your arm and then close the incisions to complete the surgery.

What Can I Expect From My Brachioplasty Surgery Recovery?

After your arm lift surgery, you will experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. You will wear a compression garment on your arms to help shape them to their new contour and minimize post-surgical swelling. The discomfort will fade over the first few days, and any pain you experience can be managed using prescription or over-the-counter medications.

You should plan to take several days off of work and refrain from strenuous daily activities. Most patients return to driving and other everyday tasks about one to two weeks after surgery. You should continue to avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for at least four to six weeks after the procedure.

When Will I See My Brachioplasty Results?

While you may see some results immediately after your arm lift, swelling from the surgery will keep you from seeing your complete results. Most swelling will resolve within a couple of weeks, but it may take a few months for your full results to be visible.

Arm lift results are considered permanent if you don’t gain or lose significant weight. Maintaining a healthy diet and stable weight will help you enjoy your beautiful new upper arm contour for years.
